Japan Square vzw presents a new Japanese film festival in Ghent in collaboration with Studio Skoop.
Japan Square wants to give the cream of Japanese cinema a place by organising an annual festival. You will get a unique view of Japan, a country that has long since left its clichés behind and is only too happy to prove this with its cinema.
It is no coincidence that Studio Skoop is the partner for this edition. As a film distributor, Studio Skoop already played a pioneering role in the 1970s. Moreover, this Ghent arthouse institute already provided us with several Japanese gems at the time, such as the Belgian premiere of Kurosawa’s ‘Derzu Uzala’ (‘The Hunter’).
No Kurosawa this time, but a varied programme of controversial cult, abstract anime, subdued drama and docufiction.
