Four cellmates chew on this heartbreaking question together with Kenta, ‘the new one’ in the group. The rules of the game are simple: convince your cellmates with your tastiest memory. The stakes are high: the osechi, the traditional New Year’s meal and also their annual culinary highlight.

Let it be clear, this film adaptation of the wildly popular comic manga Gokudô Meshi is about heavenly food and divine preparations. The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, and that is no different for Japanese criminals. That much soon becomes clear when we get to see the culinary memories of the cellmates one by one.
