Japanese whiskey?
Japan has a strong bond with whiskey. That story begins in 1918. While Europe was still licking its wounds from the First World War, Japanese chemistry student Masataka Taketsuru traveled around Scotland to unravel the secrets of this ‘water of life’. In this tasting session, we take you to Japan where Taketsuru introduced whiskey in 1934, and we let ourselves be inspired by him and his followers.
Using 6 impeccable expressions, we relive the story of Japanese whiskey. To this day, Japan is the third largest Single Malt Whiskey producing country in the world, after Scotland and America.
Jan Danneel (Oostende, 1975), the driving force behind The Tulip Glass, has been immersed in whiskey for years. He built up a solid knowledge through tasting panels, contacts with the industry, travel and professional literature. He has a thorough technical knowledge of the whisky production process, has visited more than twenty distilleries in Scotland and attended a scientific seminar led by Prof. Dr. Paul Hughes (Heriott-Watt University, Glasgow). Jan Danneel built a reputation by writing whisky-related articles and organising his own tastings. Because he is neither a brand-specific nor a supplier, you will receive honest information and sincere advice. He is also open to innovation and expansion.
Book quickly, because the number of participants is limited.
After the workshop, we will place a selection of photos on this event page.
