The Mole Song: Hong Kong Capriccio

土竜の唄 香港狂騒曲

In this second film adaptation of the popular manga series, we follow the new adventures of undercover agent Kikukawa Reiji. He has risen to second in rank within the infiltrated yakuza family and has been promoted to personal bodyguard of the clan boss. In his undercover role and new position, he takes on the Chinese mafia while simultaneously trying to stay out of the clutches of the new police chief who sees him as a corrupt turncoat. On top of that, there are also the obvious advances of the boss’s wife and daughter. Enough ingredients for an explosive and caricatural cocktail, as we like to be served after a month of Tournée Minérale.

The tone and atmosphere are set right away in the opening scene and everything indicates that this, up to and including the finale, will be an over-the-top and intense ride on a rollercoaster in Miike-land. From cartoonish violence (dressed in black and with a toilet plunger) to delirious yakuza, Miike knows like no other how to catapult you effortlessly into the absurd and hilarious universe that can only spring from his brain. A portion of lightly flambéed madness as we like to serve you on a Thursday night. Can it be a little more?
