Close-Knit

When eleven-year-old Tomo comes home from school one day, she sees that her mother has left the house for the umpteenth time. Just like the previous times, Tomo moves in with her uncle Makio. He lives with Rinko, a transgender woman. Rinko works in the home where Tomo’s grandmother, who suffers from dementia, lives and that’s how she got to know Makio. She cooks for Tomo, cuddles her and helps her when she is sick.

Although Tomo is confused and shy at first, she increasingly feels at home in her uncle’s unconventional but loving family. However, the situation becomes more complex when Tomo sees her mother again and when a boy from her class and his mother try to help her.

Close-Knit film tells a heartwarming story about motherhood, friendship and family and immediately gives a therapeutic twist to knitting.
