On Saturday 19 October, we will be hosting the film Departures (Okuribito) with Japan Square in Wijkcinema Toreke in ‘t Rabot, which won an Oscar for best non-English language film in 2008.
A cellist becomes unemployed and returns to his home village with his sweetheart, where he finds work in a “departure agency”. However, this turns out not to be a travel agency but a funeral home. He becomes so skilled in his craft and fascinated by its beauty that he refuses to stop despite his girlfriend’s departure and the odd glances here and there.
Before and after the film and during the break, Toreke’s bar will be open. As an extra, Japanese snacks and drinks will be available!
Wijkcinema Toreke in ‘t Rabot regularly programmes a film; more information can be found on the website of Toreke (https://www.torekevzw.be/). Eetcafé Toreke is a warm meeting place where local residents, passers-by and people who work in the neighbourhood can meet each other. In addition, you can also regularly enjoy cultural activities there.
