"Mini Matsuri" children's entertainment

Saturday 23/03/2024 – 3:15 PM

Following the animated short films, there is also a fun children’s afternoon planned, full of traditional Japanese games, origami and even a kimono photoshoot! Children can dress up in colorful kimonos.

This year, for the first time, there will also be a special reading session during our children’s afternoon. We will unleash a unique storytelling form called “Kamishibai” on the children, presented by the talented author Etsuko Nozaka.

Etsuko Nozaka, known for her beautiful stories, will be there in person to bring her books to life. In the Kamishibai tradition, the stories are told using

a series of illustrated panels placed in a wooden box. As Etsuko turns the panels over one by one, you can enjoy the colorful illustrations and captivating stories.

The reading session starts at 3:45 PM, immediately after the film that lasts until 3:15 PM. The event lasts for a total of 30 minutes, during which there will be two performances: one in Japanese and one in Dutch. This way, both our Japanese and Dutch speakers can fully enjoy the experience.

We invite you all to take a seat and be enchanted by the magic of Kamishibai. Etsuko Nozaka will not only tell the stories, but also interact with the audience. This is a great opportunity to see a talented author in action and meet her.

Be sure to bring your curiosity and enthusiasm!

While the children are having fun with traditional Japanese games and origami, parents can relax in the Skoop Café and enjoy a delicious cup of tea or coffee. And don’t forget the Kimono Photoshoot, where children will have the chance to capture a beautiful memory.

Come and experience an unforgettable Saturday afternoon at the Japan-Square Film Festival. Be amazed by the artistic vision of the students of Tokyo University of the Arts and enjoy the coziness and traditions of Japan. It will be an afternoon full of fun, creativity and unforgettable moments!
