Komaneko (+ kamishibai)

As every year, the youth will be put in the spotlight on Saturday. This year, the children’s afternoon will start with a “historical” selection of Komaneko stop-motion short films.

Komaneko follows the story of Komaneko, a curious cat who decides to make a stop-motion film with her favorite toys, two small knitted dolls. During this creative process, Komaneko encounters various challenges, but also new friends who help her make her project a success.

We’ll keep it short, about half an hour, because …

… after the videos there will be a short kamishibai screening in the hall, a Japanese theatre form in which a narrator – in this case none other than the talented author Etsuko Nozaka – brings a story to life using images.

Subsequently, in and around the Skoop Café, in collaboration with Japanese exchange students from Ghent University, we will provide numerous additional cultural activities and games in which the children can immerse themselves after the performance.

So be sure to bring your curiosity and enthusiasm and enjoy a fun children’s afternoon, with traditional Japanese games, origami and even a kimono photoshoot (children can dress up in colorful kimonos).
