It’s that time again! You can mark your calendar: the dates for the 16th edition of the Japan-Square Film Festival at the cinema’s of Ghent have been announced!
From March 25 to 29, 2026, we will once again treat you to a delightful selection of Japanese films. As always, at selected screenings you can enjoy delicious Japanese dishes beforehand!

Tickets & Rates
Tickets can be purchased online directly via the websites of Sphinx Cinema, KASKcinema, or Tickets Gent, or via the link provided on our own website.
All purchases are final. Purchased tickets cannot be refunded.
Standard rate (film screening at Sphinx Cinema): €12
Reduced rate (film screening at Sphinx Cinema): €10
Standard rate (film screening at KASKcinema and De Koer): €8
Reduced rate (film screening at KASKcinema): €4
Reduced rates at Sphinx Cinema apply to:
• Children and young people under 18
• Students up to 26 years old (upon presentation of a valid student card)
• People aged 60+
• Job seekers (upon presentation of a valid control card)
• Groups of 10 people or more
• Holders of a European Disability Card (EDC)
• Holders of a European Youth Card
• Holders of a teacher’s card
• Employees of AZ Sint-Lucas Ghent (maximum 3 people per badge)

The bento lunch can be reserved via the link on our website. Bentos will be distributed in the café of Sphinx Cinema. Be sure to reserve quickly, as the number of meals is limited.
At the opening reception, sushi and sake will be served.
Regarding the language of the screenings: films are shown in their original version with English subtitles, except for “Belle”, which will be subtitled in Dutch.
As always, the films will be professionally introduced (in Dutch). This year’s speakers are Floor Meesen,Hélène Dujardin, Luk Van Haute, Tim Maerschand and Xante Moyersoen.
Photographer Rob Walbers, who exchanged Overpelt for Tokyo several years ago, once again created the festival poster image for the Japan-Square Film Festival.
