Purehearted, adapted from Maha Harada’s novel Kaze no Majimu (Wind of Majimu) and set in Okinawa, follows Maki, a woman determined to launch the island’s first rum brand. With no prior experience but a growing passion, she faces skeptical bosses and navigates local politics. Balancing tradition and innovation, she overcomes numerous obstacles with the support of her family and community.

A heartwarming story of courage, dreams, and the bonds that tie a community together, the film also stands out for its authentic portrayal of Okinawan culture and landscape. Although fictional and inspired by a real person, it tells a story of a successful female entrepreneur that is sure to inspire and resonate with audiences.

This drama is directed by Kaoru Haga, marking his feature film directorial debut after a long career directing advertisements and music videos.
