Dreaming Murakami

It is almost certain that everyone knows Murakami’s work by now. But behind the success of these works lies more than just the hard work of the writer. Unless you read the works in Japanese – congratulations – you have also been able to enjoy the hand of a translator. The silent words of Murakami.

In this documentary we follow the Danish translator Mette Holm, Murakami’s regular translator, who wants to convey Japanese thought processes and philosophies to a Western audience as best as possible.

Nitesh Anjaan made this film as an ode to all translators.
This by zooming in on this undervalued profession and by shedding light on a new side of the artistic process.

Not a boring picture, but a dream world cast in Murakami in which the boundary between reality and imagination also blurs here.

We are also proud to welcome Elbrich Fennema, the Dutch translator of Murakami books.

Marc Bussens of UFK will lead the Q&A after the film.
